Les Ateliers Courbet presents The Masters Editions by Giancarlo Valle and Mauro Mori

Les Ateliers Courbet introduces Les Editions Courbet—limited edition handcrafted pieces resulting from Courbet-initiated collaborations between contemporary designers and master craftsmen represented by the gallery. Les Editions Courbet’s inaugural collection, The Masters Editions, presents pieces that exemplify Europe’s ongoing craftsmanship legacy carried on by contemporary designers whose work is deeply informed by timehonored techniques.

The pieces presented include the Smile chair and Smile bench by New York–based designer Giancarlo Valle developed with revered French upholsterers Domeau & Pérès in Paris and Mauro Mori’s hand-carved wood and cast bronze consoles that epitomize his rarefied talent for expressing a contemporary artistic vision using traditional and painstaking sculpture techniques.

Established in New York in 2013, Les Ateliers Courbet has gained international recognition for its acute selection of timeless design pieces and distinctive exhibition program highlighting the legacy and craftsmanship of revered manufacturers from Europe, Japan, North America, and Nepal. Les Ateliers Courbet represents more than thirty master craftsmen and designers. While anchored in cultural heritage, their collections include pieces culled from archives and contemporary works—whether vintage or new, the gallery’s works reflect ongoing collaborations between established manufacturers and contemporary designers and artists.
